GREAT
APES FILM
INITIATIVE (GAFI)
In view of its broadcast and education outreach success in Congo and
Cameroon, we are thrilled to announce that GAFI has been recognised
by the UK government Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs
(DEFRA) who have offered £21,000 and WSPA who have offered $10,000.
These very welcome awards have been granted to allow GAFI to get films
about the great apes into more of the range state countries where they
are so endangered. Madelaine will be targeting Gabon, Uganda, Tanzania
and Nigeria, for distribution of the films on National TV and donation
to local NGO's, communities and wildlife centres. Aided by Chris Dickenson
, Wildlife Asia and Dave Tully of the Landrover Owners Club Madelaine
will also be taking the films to long houses and remote villages in
Sarawak and Sabah before she chairs a panel on behalf of FFC at the
Borneo Eco Summit in November.
The FFC Board would like to thank DEFRA and WSPA for their very generous
support and look forward to tackling issues like bushmeat and habitat
loss in a powerful and constructive way.
