Wildscreen 2004 Awards Ceremony...

Conservation underpins the work of the Wildscreen Trust. It is not enough just to support and promote the work of programme-makers if their subject material is vanishing without trace. To this end we (wildscreen) have opened our doors to Filmmakers for Conservation who are presenting a special award to recognise the impact of programme-makers' films on conservation itself.

Filmmakers For Conservation would like to extend their thanks to their co-sponsors eco-watch Limited and Tim Kelly of National Geographic for their wonderful support of the FFC CONSERVATION FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR AWARD.

It is often said that conservation films don't make a difference - this first Filmmakers for Conservation Award dispels that myth. The judges looked for evidence to prove that all the entrants had indeed made films that have had a real impact. They were impressed and inspired by the range and quality of entries from local single-issues stories to efforts spanning many decades.

Co-presidents Justine Schmidt and Madelaine Westwood.
The winner won an Oscar in 1959 what was to become a benchmark in conservation film making, 'Serengeti Shall Night Die'. Forty five years later he is still actively delivering powerful films, the latest being an expose of the mis-management of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. From the very outset he has, at his own expense, had his films translated into Kiswahili and distributed thousands of copies to local communities, schools and governments.

The winner of the Filmmakers for Conservation Award is:
ALAN ROOT
Victoria Stone receiving the FFC Panda Award on behalf of Alan Root.

On behalf of the FFC board and all our members we would like to thank not just the finalists but all those that entered for their wonderful support and contribution - the award after all wouldn't exist if it wasn't for your dedication and devotion in trying to create and record changes.

We were pleased and honoured by all those that put forward their names for the FFC Award. We would welcome your entry to next years award at Jackson Hole in 2005.

If FFC can in any way help or support you please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for the help you've given us.
