Winners of the 1st Fund
FFC is happy to announce the recipients of the first FFC Global Filmmaker
Fund: Christian Gonzales of Chile and Nanang Sujana of Indonesia!
The winners were announced last month at the International
Wildlife Film Festival in Missoula, Montana. Prize
money includes more than $5,000 in cash and over $10,000 of in kind
support - generously donated by Emil Gallina of Spirit Creative for
post production services and design support. The fund also includes
full marketing and distribution support from Wildlogic
LLC and Katya Shirokov. We thank Emil and Katya and
the Royal
Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and all
of our individual donors deeply for their contributions.
THE
FFC FIRST-TIME FILMMAKER FUND - Supporting Wildlife Filmmakers Worldwide
The
purpose of the FFC Fund is to grant finishing money to filmmakers
producing documentary films about highly endangered species or ecosystems
worldwide. FFC will grant the filmmaker $10,000 to $15,000 dollars
(in cash and in-kind services) to be used to realize a film which
is already in progress. In addition, an award winning pool of FFC
members will also provide guidance on production and post-production,
as well as on marketing and distribution of the film. In turn, FFC
will be considered a co-production partner and may request to retain
the right to screen the film at various venues and to receive appropriate
acknowledgments and/or credits.
The
goal of FFC is to raise $75,000-$100,000 per year in order to offer
the FFC Fund to one filmmaker per continent: Africa, Asia, Australia/Pacific,
North America, South America, and Europe.
As
this is a new initiative, our modest goal in 2005 is to raise enough
money to sponsor one or two films in one region of the globe: Central
and/or Latin America. This translates to $10,000 - $30,000 dollars.
Funds
have already been generously donated by the RSPB and individual
donors in the sum of $3,000 to date.
In
summary, the FFC Fund will provide filmmakers with:
- $10-$15 K in finishing funds and in-kind services (free camera
use, post production, sound mixing, graphics, etc)
- guidance during the production and post production process
- distribution and marketing tips and advice

This
year is the 29th anniversary of Missoula's International Wildlife
Film Festival. The Filmmaker's Festival, as it is often called,
has evolved into one of the most significant film events; where
wildlife on screen means film and filmmaking take center stage,
providing unsurpassed opportunities to share ideas, see colleagues'
