Title: Red Native

Description:

Red Native follows the intriguing day of a native British red squirrel in its quest to find food, from running along the tree branches to scurrying along the forest floor, the red squirrel will be a much loved character. However, the happiness is broken by the appearance of invasive grey squirrels, which leads the audience to experience the impact this grey species has on the red native. A captivating story of a Red VS Grey theme, with joyful, sad, funny, serious and intriguing emotions throughout this four minute short. This proved a tricky but exciting production which led the team to Kielder Forest in Northumberland with the help of SOS charity (Save Our Squirrels) and local Red Squirrel devotee Don Clegg.

Aims:

The aim of Red Native was to portray the story of the British Red Squirrelsʼ plight for survival for an audience of all ages.

Red Native has been screened at Birminghamʼs Arts Fest (www.artsfest.org.uk) and is a feature in Kielder Castleʼs interactive room. (www.saveoursquirrels.org/pge/news_and_events/northumberland.html)
